| Mentoring: Dr. Holcombe's CA-82450 award supports the mentoring of students, MD trainees, and junior faculty in clinical and translational research, specifically as it relates to oncology research and trials focused on cancer immunology and colon cancer. His trainees include Dr. Tiong Ong, an R21 and R01 funded Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke/Singapore University with multiple top tier journal publications; and Dr. Chris McCanless, Vice-Chief of Oncology at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Dr. Holcombe has mentored 49 trainees with 10 currently. |

| Research: An exemplary translational scientist, Dr. Holcombe oversees the clinical trials infrastructure at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. He promotes the development of novel bench-to-bedside translational trials within the cancer center's basic science and clinical faculty. His research laboratory studies signaling pathways in colon cancer cells, and recently he and his team discovered that resveratrol—a nutritional supplement derived from grape extract—blocks cellular signaling in the development of colorectal cancer. A two-time recipient of Best Doctors in America (2005, 2006), Dr. Holcombe has been the principal investigator on more than 100 clinical trials. |
