| Mentoring: As Senior Associate Dean of Educational Affairs for the past 10 years, Dr. Manetta has extensive administrative experience in the education of physicians and the clinical training of allied health and nursing professionals at the UC Irvine Medical Center. Dr. Manetta is also co-founder of UC Irvine's Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community (PRIME-LC program). This program is a national model for training highly qualified, culturally sensitive and linguistically competent Latino physician-leaders. The PRIME-LC class of 2009 includes Gabriela Diaz of Santa Maria, CA, who writes, The Central Joachim Valley, with its majority Hispanic population, has one of the highest rates of families living at or below the poverty level without adequate access to healthcare

| Research: A celebrated leader and researcher, Dr. Manetta's clinical interests are gynecologic malignancies including ovarian, vulvar, cervical, and uterine cancers as well as complex pelvic surgeries. Consistent with his belief in the importance of preventing gynecologic?especially cervical cancer, the NIH National Cancer Institute awarded him a 5 year grant for the Single Visit Cervical Cancer Prevention Program, which focuses on a new and simplified approach to the screening for cervical cancer. Recipient of the 2005 Leadership Award from the California Latino Medical Association (CLMA), Dr. Manetta's research explores disparities in the quality of life among Latina cervical cancer survivors. In addition, Dr. Manetta and his colleagues are studying biomarkers in cervical carcinoma and clinical correlation of the novel biomarker MN. In addition to numerous other prestigious awards, Dr. Manetta received UC Irvine's 2005 Lauds and Laurels Extraordinarius Award, the highest honor awarded by the UC Irvine Alumni Association. |
