| Mentoring: An outstanding mentor and communicator, Dr. Narula has earned numerous teaching, mentoring and speaking awards, including the Best Teacher Award in Cardiology (Drexel University, 2001); the Mentorship Award from Residents and Fellows (Hahnemann University Hospital, 2002); the Mentorship and Faculty of the Year Award in Cardiology (UC Irvine, 2004 and 2007); the Robert Burns Memorial Oration Award (Canadian Cardiology Society, 2007); and the Premlata Seth Memorial Oration Award (Cardiology Society of India, 2007). Dr. Narula has 47 prior and current trainees, 14 of whom have received Young Investigator and Best Young Investigator Awards. |

| Research: Dr. Narula is a nationally and internationally acclaimed investigator in clinical and basic cardiology research. His research focuses on novel methods of identifying the vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques as well as the imaging of apoptosis and its relation to the pathogenesis of heart failure. He is also one of the world's authorities on rheumatic fever and he has contributed significantly to the development of novel noninvasive imaging techniques. Dr. Narula has authored over 300 scientific publications, edited more than 25 books and monographs, and is the founding editor of the Heart Failure Clinics of North America. His research skills have been recognized by countless awards, most recently the Physician of the Year Award (Indian Medical Association of California, 2007); the ARISE Award for Academic Excellence (UC Irvine, 2007); and the UC Irvine Living Our Values Honor Roll (2007). Dr. Narula is the current President of the American Heart Association of Orange County. |
