| Research: Dr. Bunney's clinical and translational research focuses on discovering the genes that cause serious mental disorders, including major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. In the past, scientists were able to study one gene at a time. Now, through the use of a new technology called microarrays, Dr. Bunney and his research team are able to investigate all 30,000 genes in the human body in one experiment. This technology is providing new, fundamental information concerning the diagnosis, treatment, cause and possibly the prevention of these major mental illnesses. Dr. Bunney has held a number of positions at the NIH, received numerous national and international research awards, authored more than 390 scientific publications, and edited seven books. |
