| Mentoring: Dr. Chang's laudable record of outreach and mentoring to diverse segments of society includes more than 150 lectures at meetings, symposia and workshops—from major national symposia to UC Irvine's Chinese Scholars Lecture to a community lecture at the Irvine Senior Center. As Director of the Asian Education and Outreach Program since 2000, Dr. Chang is ideally suited to liaise with the Orange County's Asian community and facilitate their awareness of and participation in ICTS research and mentoring programs. Recognition of Dr. Chang's exceptional mentoring skills includes UC Irvine's Excellence in Teaching Award (Division of Gastroenterology, 1997). Dr. Chang has 22 prior trainees and 3 currently. |

| Research: A 4-time recipient of Best Doctors in America, Dr. Chang's research investigates the safety, risks and side effects of novel cancer treatments, including the potential use of OncoVEXGM-CSF to treat patients with pancreatic cancer; the evaluation of preoperative chemoradiation plus TNFerade Biologic prior to esophagectomy for locally advanced resectable esophageal cancer; a randomized sham-controlled clinical trial of the Plicator for the treatment of symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux disease; and the study of TNFerade Biologic with 5-FU and radiation therapy for first-line treatment of unresectable locally advanced pancreatic cancer. Dr. Chang has served on UC Irvine's Cancer Center Director's Clinical Chiefs Council since 1998. |
