2014 CALL FOR PILOT STUDY PROPOSALS

FOR INCLUSION IN THE

P30 CENTERS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SELF-MANAGEMENT

RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION

ICTS is pleased to announce a new call for Pilot Project Proposals for inclusion in a grant application that will be submitted in response to a new funding opportunity, RFA-NR-14-002, Centers of Excellence in Self-Management Research (P30) offered through the National Institute of Nursing Research.  Two to three pilot studies will be selected.

Eligible Projects

The Centers for Excellence in Self-Management program was designed to enhance interdisciplinary, biobehavioral research for scientists conducting self-management research by enabling development of a sustainable research infrastructure and centralized resources in support of research programs in various science areas.   Pilot studies, currently not funded and aimed at obtaining preliminary results toward a full application for extramural funds, are considered eligible.

Principal Investigators (PIs) must be full time UCI faculty from any school or discipline; junior faculty  are especially encouraged to apply, but established investigators pursuing novel research lines are also welcome.

The review process will be structured in two phases:

Phase I:  submission of scientific abstract.  These abstracts will be reviewed internally.

(Deadline: February 12, 2014; notification of results February 15);

Phase II: submission of full proposal; this will be limited to the top 2-3 abstracts submitted during Phase I.  These proposals will be reviewed internally.

(Deadline: February 28, 2014)

The Phase II applications should consist of a single word document, typed in font no smaller than 11 and with half-inch margins, including:

1) Project Description (no more than 30 lines)

2) A five-page research plan including

                                    a) Specific Aims;

                                    b) Significance/Impact;

                                    c) Approach/Design

3) Biosketches (NIH) of Co-PI’s

4) A 1-page itemized two-year budget (not to exceed $70K per year for personnel costs; research resources will be budgeted separately)

*Please note that grant funding is not a guarantee; if the grant is funded, all required approved IRB and/or IACUC documents must be in place before funds are actually released to awarded applications.
