Overarching Goals and Specific AimsThe Biostatistics, Ethics and Design Unit (BED) will support the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) at UC Irvine in its mission of transforming clinical and translational science. Specifically BED will provide biostatistics consultation on design and analysis of studies, develop new biostatistical methodology, provide education and training in statistical methods and clinical research ethics, and ensure that clinical research ethics are integrated in the support services provided to UC Irvine investigators and community partners. In addition, BED provides in-depth study design consultation for all ICTS supported projects, including monitoring and analysis of all ICTS supported projects. BED also develops novel statistical methodology for addressing complex scientific questions and an ethical approach to clinical research that ensures the research experience is at least satisfying, and wherever possible, edifying and enriching for the research participant. BED provides training in ethics and statistical methods to all ICTS trainees and investigators.
